Contrasting Music Videos

Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VQ_3sBZEm0

In this music video it represents the stereotype that obese people see people as food, this is shown through the women drinking the coffee which is drugged with sleeping powder and starts to hallucinate and see people as food. This reinforces the stereotype that obese people only have food on there mind and even see people as food. Also in this music video there is a male flight attendant as a gay man, this reinforces the stereotype of male flight attendants mostly being gay. This abstract video supports this stereotype about most gay men wanting to be flight attendants, this is unfair because he is shown in an unprofessional way as he is shown to be attracted to the pilot and the other men on board. This also shows that if a straight man wanted to pursue this career he could be seen to be something he is not and be judged by his career choice.

Beyonce - Single Ladies
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m1EFMoRFvY

In this music video it represents the male gaze theory and shows women as the 'object'. This particular video is constructed just to serve male pleasure because of the outfits they wear and the body language of the women in this video, it also provokes and is a dominant stereotype to be aimed at men. This is an accurate representation of what males think women should look like and shows how the media saturate what really goes on in the world and blurs the reality that not all women look like the women in the video, and it reinforces the male gaze theory as it aims to show men what they could have and the music supports this representation. The colour scheme is black and white, white shows positivity opposed to black.

Michael Jackson - Thriller
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOnqjkJTMaA

In this music video it represents how the woman in this video looks week as she is shown to be scared and frightened, which reinforces the stereotype that women need to be protected. Therefore it shows the man in this video as the strong and the protective one and again reinforces the stereotype that men have to protect the women. The location of the music video creates an eerie atmosphere as it is based in a graveyard, which makes the woman frightened and thats why the man is protecting her.
