Analysing Soap Opera's

Coronation Street - Faye's Pregnancy

In this clip coronation street use the character Faye to represent the dominant stereotype of an irresponsible teen girl who doesn't take precautions. This shows a typical teenage girl being immature and acting her age by her actions of getting pregnant, this classes all teenagers to be careless and irresponsible and reinforces the stereotype about girls like her.

Another stereotype in this clip is about the boy, he reinforces the stereotype about obesity in teenagers and young children. This represents how parents don't provide their children with a healthy diet and not all parents care about what their children eat. The other part shown in this clip is a teen boy helping and supporting his friend as she finds out she is pregnant, however this is challenging the typical stereotype of boys his age being reckless and thoughtless because he is being thoughtful as he is willing to help her through her pregnancy.

Eastenders - The Taylor's

In this clip Eastenders use the family the Taylor's to represent the stereotype of what people call the "rough" part of London and show them to be very scruffy, unclean and careless about there appearance and the way they speak to people. This clip shows an overview of what the family act like  in this soap opera and reinforces the typical stereotype of "rough" people and they represent what others typically see them as.

The daughter of the family is a stereotype of a typical irresponsible and immature teenage girl, she was once pregnant and she is overweight suggesting that her parents don't care about the way they perceive themselves to other people. This also links to the mother as well because she doesn't care about her appearance or the way she portrays herself towards the rest of the street. The mother also challenges the stereotype of adults being mature and well mannered as she acts very immature and childish because this clip shows her arguing with her neighbours and people who live on the street.
